SolarEdge App: "clipping" or a flat-topped production graph
On bright, cool days you may see your production graph rise in the morning, go flat across the top around midday, then fall in the afternoon. This is called clipping.
Why it happens
Your panels can sometimes produce more DC power than the inverter is rated to convert. The inverter safely caps output at its maximum, which creates the flat top. Systems are often designed this way on purpose because it produces more energy over the whole day and year.
Is it a problem?
- Usually not. A brief flat top on the sunniest days is normal.
- Worth a call: If the graph is flat at a much lower level than usual, flat every day including cloudy days, or has sudden drops to zero, something else may be going on.
